Planning For The Future
Planning for end of life matters are quite possibly the most important decisions an individual must make. When a person fails to take any planning measures, or where previous documents they have in place no longer adequately cover their situation, the State can step in to decide those matters for you. That is often not the one you want making those decisions.
We have found over the years that many individuals have not taken the necessary steps to plan for how their assets will be handled, or more importantly, how their decisions or non-decisions could affect their family.
Tailoring A Plan to Your Needs
Perhaps one or many of the following questions are things you have considered:
- How can I make sure that my property is distributed how I want it to be when I pass on?
- Who will make medical and/or financial decisions for me if I am unable to do so?
- What is the best way to provide for my family or close friends if I am unable to, or when I pass on?
- Can I decide who will take care of my children if my spouse and I die while they are still minors?
- How can I pay for medical or nursing home costs without burdening my family and without losing all of my property?
Keeping Your Plan Current
Perhaps you already have a Will or other planning documents in place, and don’t think you need anything different. However, maybe it has been several years since those documents were drafted or maybe your financial or lifestyle situation has changed and those documents will no longer accomplish your wishes.
